Chemistry, Circulation, and Filtration. Without even one of these, we make an inviting environment for algae to proliferate. A pool filter works by filtering algae, debris, and other contaminants like sunscreen and tanning oils. So, a dirty filter can jeopardize the filtration of your pool. This is when we might think “two out of three isn’t so bad! My pool should be fine, right?” However, as a filter catches more and more debris, it impedes the circulation of the pool as well. Water does not pass through a dirty filter as well as it does through a clean filter.
